MADRID, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Jonas Vingegaard of Visma-Lease a Bike won the sixth stage of the Tour of Catalonia on Saturday to extend his lead in the general classification and all-but ensure overall victory ahead of Sunday's final stage.

The two-time Tour de France winner took the mountain stage victory between Berga and Queralt following Friday's stage win.

With just over two kilometers left on the stage that included a special-category climb and two first-category mountains, the Danish rider eased away from a group that also contained Lenny Martinez of Bahrain Victorious and Florian Lipowitz of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe to finish the stage 10 seconds ahead of the pair.

That leaves Vingegaard with one minute and 22 seconds over Martinez in the general standings, with Lipowitz a further eight seconds back.

"Red Bull put pressure on in the last climb, but I was in the group and it was a battle between the six of us," Vingegaard said after the stage. "I still had the legs for an attack, so that's what I did. I was able to lose the guys from my wheel and take the win. It was a good day and again I want to thank my teammates for what they did to help."

Remco Evenepoel, who lost over one and a half minutes on Friday, did a tremendous job for his teammate Lipowitz towards the end of the race. The Olympic champion led up the first kilometers of the final climb to split the favorites' group, forcing Felix Gall of Decathlon to lose touch and allowing Lipowitz to move into the top-three.

Giulio Ciccone of Lidl-Trek led the early breakaway, claiming enough points to ensure he ends the race in the red jersey for the best climber.

The final stage starts and finishes in Barcelona, covering 95 kilometers and ending with seven circuits of Montjuic in the city center.
